Vixen was made beneath the autumn sun, as women gathered in circle and worked with their hands. Red kites circled overhead, foxes wandered the land around us, and from somewhere beyond the trees came the first guttural calls of the stags beginning their rut.
This wild wool collar was made during one of our Ancestral Craft gatherings, wet felted slowly by my hand beneath the autumn sunshine while women gathered in circle and worked with their hands in the low autumn sun as the land was beginning its turn.
This collar is made from beautiful long Icelandic wool, wet felted by hand onto a soft merino wool backing. The long locks have been allowed to remain wonderfully wild and unruly, falling around the shoulders almost like an animal pelt.
I don't want these pieces to feel overly finished or domesticated. I want them to retain something of the animal, Something feral, Something that moves when you move.
Worn around the shoulders, it becomes part collar, part mantle, part wild adornment, a piece that feels as though it might have belonged to another time.
If it’s calling to rest your shoulders is £145 plus P&P or kerbside collection from Ludlow.
