Hawk Listening Piece

Hand-carved ceremonial antler object

There are some objects that arrive carrying their own presence.

When I first looked at this antler I saw piece a carving of a diving hawk.  talons extended, descending through air with the precision and silence of a true predator. Yet as I sat longer and listened the it became clear this was not simply an artwork, nor an object made for performance or display alone.

It was a listening piece.

In many ancient traditions, birds of prey were regarded as messengers between worlds  creatures of vision, discernment, and witness. The hawk sees from above while remaining deeply tethered to the land below.

The natural form of the antler guided the carving itself. The prongs became part of the hawk’s shape,  suggestion rather than illustration,  allowing the creature to emerge from the bone rather than sit upon it. The engraving remains intentionally restrained, preserving the voice and movement already held within the antler.

Created as a ceremonial listening piece  for holding, witnessing, silence, and story.

Finished with natural oils and leather wrapping, this object is intended to gather patina through age and handling. Over time, the surface will deepen and darken where touched most often, becoming marked by smoke, skin, ritual, grief, conversation, prayer, and presence.

Like all true ceremonial objects, it is designed to change through relationship.

This piece may serve as:
— a ceremonial speaking or listening object
— a witness piece for circles or grief work
— an altar or ritual object
— a companion for meditation or journeying
— or simply a sacred artwork for those called to it

One of a kind.

Crafted in reverence for animal, land, and the old ways of listening.
